Materials overview

Materials: structural steel, fine-grain structural steel and non-ferrous metals

Which material in which thickness — and on which machine? This page answers the question that stands at the start of every request. With concrete limit values for each manufacturing process, so that you can assess the feasibility of your component straight away.

These are the materials we process

August Bertrams GmbH processes structural steels, fine-grain structural steels and non-ferrous metals — in press braking all cold-formable materials, in joining all weldable materials. Around 1,200 tonnes of material pass each month through our sheet metal processing centre in Werra-Suhl-Tal in Thuringia; sales and order processing are based at the head office in Köln.

In ongoing production, the fine-grain structural steels S355MC and S460MC are among those in use — for example for beams and outer frames in vehicle and agricultural machinery construction, pickled or galvanized on request. Material procurement is handled directly by our production planning via the ERP system.

Frequently asked questions

Which steels does August Bertrams GmbH process?

All common structural steels such as S235 and S355 as well as fine-grain structural steels such as S355MC and S460MC — from cutting through punching and laser cutting to press braking and welding.

Does Bertrams also process non-ferrous metals?

Yes, non-ferrous metals are part of the service scope for shearing, punching and laser processing. Whether your specific material runs economically on the desired process is something we clarify in the request.

Which sheet thicknesses are possible?

Depending on the process: laser cutting up to 20 mm, shearing up to 10 mm, punching up to 8 mm, press braking from 0.75 to 15 mm. The full table with formats is on this page.

Do I have to supply the material myself?

No. Material scheduling runs through our ERP system — with around 1,200 tonnes of throughput per month, we procure your material on schedule as well. Supplying it yourself is also possible by arrangement.
